1. Community Service Night — Call for donations and participation!

Please join us at 6:30 pm on Thursday, January 19th in the Wayside APR as we come together for our annual Community Service Night. Parents and kids will pack boxes filled with fun gifts for children in local hospitals, organized through the Jared Box Project (https://thejaredbox.org/).

Wayside PTA will provide shoebox-sized storage boxes, and we are calling on our generous Wayside community to help fill the boxes either by donating items or by helping with your kids on January 19th to pack the boxes or by helping in both ways!!

Check out our signup to see what is needed and sign up to donate some much needed items from the list.

Donations may be left in the box in the front office starting on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 or you may bring your donation with you to the event on Thursday, January 19th

Thank you in advance for your participation and donations. Any questions, please feel free to email Rima (rima.adler@gmail.com) or Yishen (yishensun@yahoo.com).

For those of you who have not participated in the past, Community Service Night is a family event where each person will be tasked with packing boxes (provided) with fun toys and items (donated) that will help entertain hospitalized children. The organization services kids of all ages so boxes will be tailored by age/ gender to provide the recipient with a box made with them in mind.  With the help of our Wayside Community, we hope to show our children what can be accomplished when a community comes together to help those in need. Please consider donating items to pack prior to the event, and/or coming to help fill the boxes. The event generally lasts about an hour and this is a family event where you AND your kid(s) can work together! We look forward to packing with you.

2. Skate Night
Join us at the Cabin John Ice Rink on Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 6:30 to 8pm for an evening of skating!  If you plan to attend, please sign up here! Skate admission will be covered by the PTA. Skate rentals can be purchased for $4 at the rink.  Spectators can watch for free.  Hope to see you on the ice!
3. Wayside Talent Show
Do you have a special talent that you want to share with the Wayside community? The Wayside Talent Show is looking for students to perform in our first in person talent show since 2019. Sign up now to receive additional information about submitting videos of your talent by January 21, 2023. We can’t wait to see you on the stage on March 24th! Questions? Contact Paula Reible at paulareible@gmail.com.
4. Seeking Volunteers for Nominating Committee

The PTA Board is seeking at least three PTA members to serve on the Nominating Committee, which will recruit the slate for the 2023-2024 PTA Board. The timeframe for the committee’s work is February/March. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact Melissa Adler, PTA President, at president@waysidepta.org.

5. Parent/Child Reunification Drill Volunteer Sign-up

As a part of Wayside’s commitment to ensuring the safety of our students, staff, and community, the administration and school’s On-site School Emergency Team will conduct a Child Re-unification Practice Drill with families.  Wayside is still looking for 20 families to sign up.

The drill will take place on Monday, January 23, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.  Please complete this form if you are interested in participating (a form is needed for each child if you have more than one child enrolled at Wayside).  The deadline for signing up is Thursday, January 12th. Please know that by submitting this form, you are agreeing to take your child(ren) home as part of this drill – students will not report back to class once the drill has been completed (approximately 3pm).

If you have questions, contact our assistant principal, Mr. Vernon Jones, at Vernon_A_Jones@mcpsmd.org, or call the school at (240) 740-0240.

6. Seeking feedback on the draft MCCPTA 2022-2023 Advocacy Priorities

Dear Wayside PTA members,

The Advocacy Committee of Montgomery County Council of Parent-Teacher Association is seeking feedback from local PTAs on the the draft MCCPTA 2022-2023 Advocacy Priorities. If you have any modifications or comments to propose, please email the Wayside MCCPTA delegates (delegate1@waysidepta.org and delegate2@waysidepta.org) by January 11th (Wednesday). Wayside PTA Board will discuss the feedback collected, and prepare a summary report to MCCPTA accordingly. When reviewing the draft:
1) Please include the reference to the line number given in the PDF file if making modifications or comments;
2) The eight topics outlined in the draft are of equal importance. Therefore, the feedback that MCCPTA is soliciting is not on ranking priorities of those seven topics, but rather about any topics that are missing from the draft.

Thank you for your time, and please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
