Please note the changes to the school schedule this week:
Monday:  No School/Professional Day
Tuesday:  Asynchronous Learning
Wednesday:  Asynchronous Learning
Thursday:  Normal Learning Schedule + ✨ Spirit Night ✨
Friday:  Early Release Day
*Students who returned to the building on March 1 will continue with the normal learning schedule March 9-11.

3. Spirit Night at Moby Dick’s House of Kabob on March 11- TWO LOCATIONS!

The next Wayside Spirit Night will be Thursday, March 11 at Moby Dick’s at both the Potomac Village and Fallsgrove locations. You can order three different ways: (1) in the store, (2) by telephone, or (3) online (but if you order online you must call the restaurant afterwards to tell them your order is for Wayside’s Spirit Night).  If you order in the store or by phone, you must mention Wayside Elementary. The Wayside PTA will receive 20% of proceeds from the evening.  Moby Dick has some great family meal deals, so please consider checking them out for our next spirit night!

4. Parent Survey on MCCPTA SRO Resolution

The Montgomery County Council of PTAs (MCCPTA) has proposed a new resolution to improve coordination, transparency, and accountability in the school resource officer (SRO) program, and to address its negative impacts on students, especially Black and Brown students and students with disabilities. MCCPTA delegates will vote on the resolution at their next meeting on March 23. In preparation, the Wayside delegates have drafted this short survey to gauge opinion among Wayside parents. Please complete the survey by March 21. 5. Wayside Monthly Chess Tournament on March 21

Calling all Wayside chess players again! Given the success of last month’s Wayside Open Chess Tournament, the PTA and the tournament organizer decided to make this tournament a monthly event. The March tournament will take place on Sunday, March 21 at 10 a.m. on Chess.com. It will also be a 4-round Swiss tournament with G25+5 time control. You need to register for a free Chess.com account if you don’t already have one and join the Wayside Chess Club (https://www.chess.com/club/wayside-chess-club/join) to be able to play in the tournament. Please follow this link to join the tournament: https://www.chess.com/live#t=2119916. Please join 10 minutes before the tournament starts and your game will start automatically. As for the prizes, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner of each monthly tournament will get 3, 2 and 1 points, respectively. The top 3 players who get the most points by the end of this school year (June) will get trophies! Get ready!!! 6. Talent Show Reminder: Submit Talent Details and Video!

If you are participating in Wayside’s 2021 Virtual Talent Show please complete Wayside’s 2021 Virtual Talent Show Google form for each student participating in the talent show as soon as possible. Once the form is completed, you will receive a separate email with details aon how to submit your talent video. 7. Nominating Committee Seeks 2021-2022 PTA President

The Nominating Committee is seeking a PTA member who is interested in serving on the PTA Board next year as PTA president. The President oversees the functioning of the Executive Board, chairs the monthly executive board and general membership meetings, and acts as the main liaison with the school administration. 8. Kids Adventures Academy at Wayside

Kids Adventures Academy located at Wayside Elementary School is accepting children 6 weeks of age to 5 years. We follow The Creative Curriculum for Preschool and The Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers & Twos. Our programs follow MCPS Administrative Offices for school closures and Holidays. All our programs follow 378771`CDC & DHHS COVID-19 regulations.

10. Special Education Advisory Committee Meeting on March 10 

Parents are invited to the MCPS Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) virtual meeting on Wednesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. The speakers will share updates on special education process re-entry. See the agenda for the Zoom link.

11. It Takes A Village

Wayside students supported Cards for Hospitalized Kids during Kindness Week by making 160 greeting cards. Wow! Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Wayside community service project, especially our Community Service chairs (Rima Adler, Debbie Band, and Marianne Beardall) who selected the project, and Mrs. Freundel and our teachers who got our students involved.
