3. Contribute to the Wayside Cookbook by November 30

Share your love of cooking, family, and community by contributing to the Wayside Cookbook! We’ve gathered more than a dozen recipes from the Wayside community: chili chicken nachos, egg scallion pancakes, chicken tandoori, energy balls, caramel brownies, and more…yum! Here’s a sneak peek of one recipe. From sides to sweets and everything in-between, we love to see what dishes our community loves while learning about the cultures and families that make us who we are. Please consider contributing to this fun book that you can use in time for the holidays. This cookbook will be printable, free, and is a great way to get cooking inspiration while we’re all home with our family.
To contribute to this special project, e-mail the following information by November 30 to programs@waysidepta.org:

  1. Name of dish
  2. Name of contributing student or family and grade level
  3. Country of origin
  4. Number of servings
  5. Ingredients
  6. Steps
  7. Special notes/story
  8. Optional: Photo (png or jpg file) of your child or family creating the dish or posing with final product or have your child draw a picture of the dish to accompany the recipe

4. Reflections Entries Due November 30

For more than 50 years, National PTA has celebrated the imagination and creativity of students through the Reflections program. Reflections is a unique arts-in-education effort as it engages all students, including two age groups for elementary schools: Primary for K through grade 2, and Intermediate for grade 3 through grade 5. The 2020-2021 theme is

I Matter Because…

There are six categories for this friendly competition, and participants can enter in more than one category.

6. Virtual Story Time by GenGreen on November 21

GenGreen is hosting monthly virtual read-alouds where they read books relating to the environment and have a discussion afterward. GenGreen is a nonprofit founded by a current Churchill student, whose mission is to educate the younger generations about climate change and the environment. Their next virtual story time for kids is on November 21 at 10:30 a.m. on Zoom. You can RSVP here.

7. MCPS Parent Preference Survey Due December 3

MCPS has released a parent preference survey on the return to school plan. You can find the survey and more information on the plan here. If you have read this one-pager guide and still have questions about the survey before you submit your response, please email mcpsinfo@mcpsmd.net with the subject “Survey” and MCPS will make every effort to address your questions. Please note that MCPS will not be able to answer specifics on what in-person learning will look like for your child. This can only be developed once they receive responses from all parents.

8. Where’s My School Directory?

If you were not able to pick up your school directory in late October, contact president@waysidepta.org to get your copy. Note that directories are for PTA members only. It’s not too late to join the PTA! See how to join here.

9. Looking for a Talent Show Chair

Wayside is full of talented students, and we are looking for a parent volunteer who can make all these stars shine bright in a virtual talent show this spring. The main task is to edit short video clips together into a full talent show video. If you are up for this challenge, please contact Kirsten Carr, VP of Volunteers, for more details at volunteers@waysidepta.org.

10. It Takes A Village

Wayside students enjoyed a night of stories thanks to our fabulous teacher readers, Mr. Zelin, Ms. Adams, Ms. Yanow, and Ms. DiBartolomeo! Thank you also to Ms. Hill and Mr. King for their help in coordinating Teacher Reading Night. A round of applause for Linda Young and Edith Deng, the book fair co-chairs, who organized our book fair this year!
