1. It’s not too late…PTA deadline extended!

Join the PTA by October 5 to be in the school directory! After October 5, the school directory goes to print. Membership is $35 for parents and $10 for teachers and staff. A free printed school directory and access to the online directory comes with each membership. Dues don’t cover everything that the PTA provides for the school, so we invite you to make a direct donation to the Wayside PTA. Any amount is welcome! The suggested donation is $100.
For returning members, verify your contact information in AtoZ and pay membership dues and direct donations by clicking the button above. This link provides directions for returning families. For new members, and for anyone without an AtoZ account, follow these directions.

Questions? Contact Winnie Lee, membership chair, at wini298@yahoo.com.

 2. Get Into the Wayside Spirit!

Wayside spirit wear is now available online! As an introduction, free shipping is available from Friday, September 25 until Monday, October 12. Visit the online store at www.waysidespiritwear.com.

Students and parents can choose which Wayside logos they would like on a variety of different products. There even is a special “Wayside Zooming into 2020” design! Students can customize the color of their items easily.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Linda Young on logowear@waysidepta.orgSee this flyer for more information.

 3. Calling all artists at Wayside

For more than 50 years, National PTA has celebrated the imagination and creativity of students through the Reflections program. Reflections is a unique arts-in-education effort as it engages all students, including two age groups for elementary schools: Primary for K through grade 2, and Intermediate for grade 3 through grade 5. The 2020-2021 theme is

I Matter Because…

There are six categories for this friendly competition, and participants can enter in more than one category.

1) Dance Choreography
2) Film Production
3) Literature
4) Music Composition
5) Photography
6) Visual Art

There is also a division for the Special Artists.

Please find the rules for the six categories, the rules for the Special Artist Division, and the entry form.

This program runs virtually across Maryland this year.

Art, along with the entry form must be received by Edith Deng (edithdeng@gmail.com) on or before November 30th, 2020.

 4. Spooktacular Halloween Helpers Needed!
Just because the kids can’t strut their stuff in a Halloween parade this year doesn’t mean they can’t strut their Halloween creativity in new ways. The Wayside PTA will be supplying Halloween craft projects for the kids so they can celebrate with their classmates virtually. Love Halloween? Help us pick out some fun things for the kids to do. We are looking for a few parents with kids of all ages to make sure we have age-appropriate entertainment for all. Please contact Kirsten Carr at volunteers@waysidepta.org if you want to help.
 5. Calling All Wayside Chefs and Bakers, Big and Small!
We are collecting recipes to create a cookbook of Wayside’s favorite dishes. If you would like to be included in this special project, email the following information to programs@waysidepta.org by October 16, 2020:

  1. Name of dish
  2. Name of contributing student or family
  3. Country of origin
  4. Number of servings
  5. Ingredients
  6. Steps
  7. Special notes/story
  8. Photo (png or jpg file) of your child or family creating the dish or posing with final product or have your child draw a picture of the dish to accompany the recipe if you would like

We can’t wait to see what our Wayside community is eating!

 6. Board of Education Candidates’ Forum
