1. Seeking Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) representative

The MCCPTA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee seeks to ensure that DEI advocates exist in every school. The role of the DEI representative is to address diversity, equity and inclusion issues, best practices, and to be a link between MCCPTA and your schools regarding these issues.

Here is the formal description and more information on the role:  MCCPTA DEI Representative Role 2022 – Google Docs

All DEI representatives are invited to attend the upcoming monthly meetings to learn more on February 3 and March 3 via Zoom.

If you are interested in being Wayside’s DEI representative for the MCPS students, families and staff in your community, please contact Melissa Adler at president@waysidepta.org.

 2. MCCPTA COVID mitigation recommendations letter

Health and Wellness Committee COVID mitigation recommendations letter was introduced at the delegates assembly meeting and voted on unanimously by the MCCPTA Board.

 3. MCR Environmental Affairs Valentine’s Day Fundraiser

The Montgomery County Regional Student Government Association’s (MCR) Environmental Affairs Task Force is a group of student advocates in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) who want to increase education and awareness of climate change. The organization would like to have a bigger impact on MCPS students by creating a drive to participate in environmental advocacy and education at the early stages of our schooling systems.

As part of the task force’s fundraising efforts, they are currently hosting a Valentine’s Day Fundraiser please link flyer for MCR-environment that I emailed to you in collaboration with a student-led business called Pop for a Cause, which sells a variety of popcorn to raise funds for various organizations. Any funds donated will be used to increase participation in their various programs while also expanding potential future projects.
Popcorn can be purchased at this link (https://www.popforacause.org/collections/popcorn-in-regular-sizes) with the promo code: MCRENVIRO at checkout to support the task force. By spending $9 – $14.99 on popcorn, one will get a free pin made by the task force. Those who spend $15 or more on popcorn, get a free handmade pin and hair clip. The fundraiser ends on February 7, 2022.
