1. Parent Survey on MCCPTA SRO Resolution: Deadline is Monday

The Montgomery County Council of PTAs (MCCPTA) has proposed a new resolution to improve coordination, transparency, and accountability in the school resource officer (SRO) program, and to address its negative impacts on students, especially Black and Brown students and students with disabilities. MCCPTA delegates will vote on the resolution at their next meeting on March 23. In preparation, the Wayside delegates have drafted this short survey to gauge opinion among Wayside parents. Please complete the survey by Monday, March 22. If you have questions on the survey or the SRO resolution, please contact Wayside delegates Lauren Berkowitz (delegate2@waysidepta.orgor Garrick Yau (delegate1@waysidepta.org).

2. Nominate Someone for an MCCPTA Special Education Recognition Award!

The MCCPTA Special Education Recognition Awards has partnered with the MCCPTA Achievement Awards to recognize incredible Special Educators, Support Staff for Special Education Services and Students. If you would like to nominate an educator, support staff or student for the award, please contact Tracy Rezvani, Wayside’s Special Education Liaison, at tdrezvani@yahoo.com by March 25, 2020.

3. Staff Appreciation Week: Seeking Donations!

Staff Appreciation Week is the first week of May, and we want to show our AMAZING Wayside staff how much their hard work means to us. Various treats and surprises are planned for them throughout the week. In addition, we plan to provide a Staff Appreciation Lunch. When COVID-19 restrictions say no in-person group lunch, we say RESTAURANT GIFT CARDS for the staff! Please show your support by contributing Panera gift cards in $20 (maximum) increments. Or, please feel free to contribute any dollar amount to be put toward gift cards and other staff appreciation items. Items can be mailed or dropped off to the Staff Appreciation Week Committee in care of Heather Michaels at 11601 Glynshire Ct, Potomac, MD 20854 (close to Wayside) or sent via Venmo. Please send an email to hsmichaels@yahoo.com to let us know it’s coming! Thanks for showing your appreciation for our staff!
