The President oversees the functioning of the Executive Board. He/she chairs the monthly executive board and general membership meetings and works with the recording secretary to create the agenda for all PTA meetings with input from the entire executive board. The President is an ex officio member of all PTA committees. The President is the main liaison with the school’s administration. The President is also a delegate to the MCCPTA and holds one of the three (3) county-level votes for Wayside. He/she attends executive board meetings, general membership meetings, cluster meetings and any ad hoc meetings with administration or various subsets of the PTA membership. They will work with all Vice Presidents to assist wherever is needed to ensure a smooth operating calendar year of PTA related activities for student, teacher, staff and families.

The First Vice President shall act as aide to the president and perform the duties of President in the absence or inability of that officer to service. The First Vice President will take over if the president needs to step down. They will foster family involvement in school activities and programs, ensuring that families feel welcomed and engaged in the school community and oversee Teacher appreciation efforts. Promote family engagement to increase participation. They will also Partner with all other Vice Presidents to ensure the stand up of committees (such as the nominating committee) and a ready list of parent volunteers to support the successful implementation of programs and events. They will work with the Vice President of Special Initiatives to secure successful Cultural Assemblies and in-school field trips for the student population at large.

The recording secretary is responsible for the documentation of all PTA business. In conjunction with the president, s/he creates the agenda for all monthly executive board and general membership meetings. The recording secretary attends both of these meetings, takes attendance, and creates detailed minutes. S/he is also called on to witness and document any special meetings throughout the year that may require minutes. She is responsible for all forms of communication from the PTA such as the Wayside Waves Newsletter and the PTA Website.

The treasurer is responsible for keeping an accurate and detailed account of all money received and paid out by the PTA. S/he receives and deposits all money paid to the PTA and creates checks for all payments and expense reimbursements made by the PTA. S/he provides a statement of the PTA profit and loss and cash position at each monthly executive board meeting and at each general membership meeting. The Treasurer is responsible for working with the PTA Executive Board and the school administration to establish a yearly operating budget. The Treasurer also coordinates the yearly audit of the PTA book and records. In addition, the Treasurer files an annual federal and quarterly sales tax returns on behalf of the PTA.
VP of Programs: Kristin Silbowitz programs@waysidepta.org
The program chair oversees all non-fundraising community PTA events, including but not limited to, Back to School Picnic, BINGO Night, Skate Night, Spring Fling, Field Day, and Talent Show. They will recruit, train, and oversee volunteers to support the successful implementation of programs and events. The VP of Events works with the chairperson of the event to ensure the proper space is reserved, to set up needed funds, and to help in any way to ensure the success of the event. This chair also assists the PTA board’s representative to the ICB, which coordinates all rentals of space for activities. S/he attends monthly executive board meetings and general membership meetings.

The activities chair is responsible for all extra-curricular activities that are managed through the PTA such as after school programs and Walk to School Day. They will plan and execute community enrichment events, including but not limited to Walk to School Day, Community Service Night, After School Enrichments, and STEM Night. They will foster a good working relationship and mentorship with our room parents and SSL student volunteers and will recruit, train, and manage volunteers to support the successful implementation of events and programs.They attend monthly executive board meetings and general membership meetings.
VP of Fundraising: Kim Troung fundraising@waysidepta.org
The Vice President of Fundraising shall be responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing fundraising activities and initiatives to support the financial needs of the PTA and enhance the educational experience for students. S/he works with the chairperson of the event to ensure PTA guidelines are followed and to help in any way to ensure the success of the event. S/he attends all executive board meetings and general membership meetings. They coordinate and manage fundraising activities, including but not limited to Membership, Corporate Sponsors, Restaurant Nights, Logo Wear, School Supplies Pre-Order and Book Fair. They will develop and maintain relationships with corporate sponsors and community partners to secure funding and resources. Ensure a detailed record of all corporate donations and work with the Secretary to ensure Donation Letters are sent out in a timely manner.

The Vice President of Special Initiatives shall be responsible for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the school community by organizing and overseeing events and initiatives that celebrate and support diverse backgrounds and perspectives. This role focuses on promoting understanding through the arts, multicultural night, a donation drive for KINDH, and more. They will coordinate and manage diversity-related events and initiatives, including but not limited to SPED Liaison, MCCPTA Gifted & Talented Liaison, MCCPTA NAACP Rep, Reflections, Cultural Arts Assemblies, KINDH, and Multicultural Night. They will ensure Wayside has a liaison for special education (SPED), MCCPTA NCAAP and gifted & talented programs, ensuring representation and support for these communities.

The two delegates are the local PTA’s connection with the county PTA. They attend one MCCPTA (Montgomery County Council of PTAs) meeting per month. They, along with the president, hold the three county-level votes belonging to the school. They attend monthly executive board meetings and general membership meetings to share what occurs at the MCCPTA meetings.
