MCPS schools are closed through April 24. We highlight some useful sources of information here:
Please continue to visit the MCPS website as updates and answers to frequently asked questions will be posted regularly. Feel free to reach out to the Wayside PTA Board, listed at the bottom of this email, at any time. Until we return to school, stay well, help your neighbors, and take care of yourself and your loved ones.

2. Online Learning Begins Monday
The first phase of the MCPS online learning plan begins Monday, March 30. The message sent March 27 from MCPS contains details of what parents and students can expect. This system is new to everyone, so let’s be patient with ourselves, our students, and our teachers!

3. Free Educational Resources
Hi Wayside family! I created this page specifically for our students while we are closed. It’s where you will find our school usernames and passwords for databases, resources we don’t subscribe to but have been made free for the time being, Montgomery County Public Library resources, and children’s authors who are hosting special online events. 4. Interested in Serving on the Wayside PTA Board?
Would you like to help Wayside be the best school it can be? We’re looking for a few good parents to join the PTA Board next year! The Nominating Committee (Nellie Abdallah, Noor Kirdar, Rita Obiora, Mark Smith, Jackie Stief, and Liqun Zhao) is seeking candidates for the following positions on the 2020-2021 Wayside PTA Board:
- VP-Ways & Means (oversees fundraising activities)
- VP-Volunteers (recruits volunteers for PTA and school activities)
- Treasurer (maintains PTA finances)

5. Come to Career Day on May 8!
Wayside is gearing up for Career Day on May 8! We are looking for three presenters for each grade K-2, and 12 to 16 presenters for the older grades. You can sign up here.

6. Kindergarten Orientation at Wayside (5/22)
Wayside will hold Kindergarten Orientation on Friday, May 22. Kindergarten Orientation is designed to help parents enroll their children, including the completion of health forms, and to assist students in becoming acquainted with future friends and the school environment. Children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2020, and their parents are invited to attend. Visit the Wayside Website for additional information.

7. Remember to Order a Yearbook!
Yearbooks are currently available for purchase for $20. Please order by Friday, April 3. Make checks payable to Wayside Elementary School. We strongly encourage the use of our online payment system. It’s easy to use and convenient. Also, 5 th graders baby photos are being collected for the “Guess Who?” page for the yearbook. Photos can be sent to yearbookwayside@gmail.com until March 30.
