1. Interested in Serving on the Wayside PTA Board?

Would you like to help Wayside be the best school it can be? We’re looking for a few good parents to join the PTA Board next year! The Nominating Committee (Nellie Abdallah, Noor Kirdar, Rita Obiora, Mark Smith, Jackie Stief, and Liqun Zhao) is seeking candidates for the following positions on the 2020-2021 Wayside PTA Board:
  • VP-Ways & Means (oversees fundraising activities)
  • VP-Volunteers (recruits volunteers for PTA and school activities)
  • Treasurer (maintains PTA finances)

2. 5th Grade Talent Show (3/6)
Mark your calendars! The 5th Grade Talent Show is on Friday March 6, 2020, at 6:30pm (doors open at 6:15). Come see many of the talented 5th graders show what they love to do best!!! Candygrams and Flowergrams to celebrate and congratulate your 5th grade friends as well as snacks and drinks will be for sale at the show. PTA reps from Hoover will be there for a meet & greet and have Hoover gear available for purchase. You don’t want to miss this exciting evening!

4. STEM Night (3/25)Save the date!! Inviting all wayside families to the 2020 STEM Night on March 25th, Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 PM

Be STEM-tastic!!!

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Night is coming up at Wayside – make sure you don’t miss it! Join us for an evening of exploration, investigation, and learning with fun, hands-on activities, presentations, and popular exhibits from external vendors for the whole family.

It’s open to ALL Wayside community to participate!  You (parent and child) can participate by:

  1. Managing a table with pre-determined fun projects (materials will be provided)..see below for more information.
    -or-
  2. Showcase your own project ideas.

Either way, you and your child are going to have a lot of STEM-tastic fun!! No age limit!

5. Kindergarten Orientation at Wayside (5/22)

Wayside will hold Kindergarten Orientation on Friday, May 22. Kindergarten Orientation is designed to help parents enroll their children, including the completion of health forms, and to assist students in becoming acquainted with future friends and the school environment. Children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2020, and their parents are invited to attend. Visit the Wayside Website for additional information.


6. Gift Card Donations for Staff Appreciation Week

The Staff Appreciation Committee wants to get a jump start on making this year’s Staff Appreciation Week (May 4-8) amazing! We are humbly asking for $20 gift card donations to give to each one of our fantastic Wayside staff. Sign up here to make a donation. It’s one way of saying THANK YOU for taking wonderful care of our children. Gift card ideas include: Amazon, Target, Starbucks, AMC, Dunkin Donuts, etc. Feel free to drop the gift cards off in the office or with your child’s teacher who will get them to the office. 7. Community Meeting on the State of Education (3/4)
All families are invited to a Community Meeting of the State of Education in Montgomery County. Topics will cover academic readiness, career pathways, and work-based learning opportunities that take our students from Pre-K to Job. The meeting takes place on Wednesday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Northwood High School. 8. BOE Candidates’ Forum (3/30)

The MCCPTA is co-hosting a Board of Education Candidates’ Forum on Monday, March 30 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Carver Auditorium, 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville. For more information and to register for the forum, see this link.
