1. Multicultural Night is on March 8th!
Please join us on Friday, March 8th, from 6-8pm in the APR as we take a trip around the world to celebrate all of the beautiful cultures that make up our community. There will be delicious food, lively performances, and lots of fun!
Skip making dinner! Hangry Panda, Sate and SnoBlast will join us to serve food from 5-8pm (1 hour before Multicultural Night starts) in the bus loop. Preorder information for Hangry Panda will be sent as the event nears.

This is going to be a night to remember and we can’t wait to see you all there!
2. Gift Cards Needed for Teacher Appreciation Week
While the snow may still be melting on our lawns, the Teacher Appreciation Committee is hard at work preparing for Teacher Appreciation Week occurring May 6-10th.  As part of the appreciation events, we like to provide each Wayside Staff member with a $25 gift card to Amazon or Target.  Please sign up now to donate gift cards to our incredibly devoted staff who provide our students with knowledge, joy and a healthy learning environment.
All gift cards should be brought to the main office in an envelope clearly labeled by April 26th.  Gift cards will not go directly to your child’s teacher but will go to a staff member at Wayside.

3. Black History Month Presents: The History of Hip Hop with Mr. Roots
This week the Wayside PTA sponsored its final assembly of the year by inviting Jamaal Collier, aka Mr. Roots, to introduce us to hip hop music and culture.  Students heard about the five elements of hip hip culture which include: break dancing (breaking), DJing (MCing), graffiti art (tagging), rapping and knowledge.  The “sixth” element is beatboxing using plosive sounds (exploding sounds to make it sound like an instrument).  The students practiced beatboxing alongside Mr. Roots using the B, T and K sounds.  Mr. Roots worked with student volunteers to freestyle silly stories and teach students about the connection between hip hop, jazz, rap, soul and the blues.

4. Lunar New Year Staff Luncheon
This week the Wayside staff was treated to an extraordinary Lunar New Year luncheon!  Teachers ate a variety of authentic foods which celebrated the year of the Dragon.  Visually, the room was decked out in red and traditional Lunar New Year symbols, tapestries and artifacts.  Families also engaged the staff by providing over $900 worth of gifts and prizes!  The camaraderie was palpable as you entered the room.

Thank you to the following volunteers for making it all possible:
