Wayside PTA Executive Board 2009-2010

President: Lori Marks  president@waysidepta.org

The President oversees the functioning of the Executive Board. He/she chairs the monthly executive board and general membership meetings and works with the recording secretary to create the agenda for all PTA meetings with input from the entire executive board.  The President is an ex officio member of all PTA committees.  The President and the 1st VP are the main liaisons with the school’s administration.  The President is also a delegate to the MCCPTA and holds one of the three (3) county-level votes for Wayside.  He/she attends monthly executive board meetings, general membership meetings, cluster meetings and any ad hoc meetings with administration or various subsets of the PTA membership.  The School Improvement Plan, Safety and Health, technology and Legal Advisor/Parliamentarian committees all report to the President.

 

1st Vice President: Danielle Fang  communications@waysidepta.org

The Vice President of Public Relations and Communications oversees any committee whose job is to communicate with the general membership or to represent the PTA in any public capacity.  The 1st VP is responsible for all Wayside Waves communication, distributing all non-profit and county information, and overseeing the PTA website.  S/he oversees the PTA bulletin board and the area/tables in front of the main office.  Current chair positions under the VP include: signboard, photocopying, and calendar.  The VP attends monthly executive board meetings and general membership meetings along with as-needed meetings with administration or various subsets of PTA membership.

 

2nd Vice President: Pam Kanstoroom fundraising@waysidepta.org

The Vice President of Ways and Means oversees all fundraising events such as Sally Foster, Book Fair, Box Tops, Spirit Nights, Logo Wear, Safeway and Giant Bonus Bucks and the Read-a-Thon.  S/he works with the chairperson of the event to ensure PTA guidelines are followed and to help in any way to ensure the success of the event.  S/he attends monthly executive board meetings and general membership meetings.

 

3rd Vice President: Dena Schoenfeld  volunteers@waysidepta.org
The Vice President of Volunteers is responsible for recruitment and assignment of parent volunteers.  Recruiting is usually done at Back to School nights and through Waves. S/he oversees all committees that are centered on volunteer coordination such as room parents, recess volunteers, staff appreciation, Play Day/Field Day, and hospitality. S/he is also called on for coordination of any unexpected volunteer needs within the school.  S/he attends monthly executive board meetings and general membership meetings.

 

Treasurer:  Diane Edwards  treasurer@waysidepta.org

The treasurer is responsible for keeping an accurate and detailed account of all money received and paid out by the PTA.  They receive and deposit all money paid to the PTA and create checks for all payments and expense reimbursements made by the PTA.  They provide a statement of the PTA profit and loss and cash position at each monthly executive board meeting and at each general membership meeting. The Treasurer is responsible for working with the PTA Executive Board and the school administration to establish a yearly operating budget. The Treasurer also coordinates the yearly audit of the PTA book and records.  In addition, the Treasurer files an annual federal and quarterly sales tax returns on behalf of the PTA.

 

Recording Secretary:  Kelly Storch  secretary@waysidepta.org   

The recording secretary is responsible for the documentation of all PTA business.  In conjunction with the president, s/he creates the agenda for all monthly executive board and general membership meetings.  The recording secretary attends both of these meetings, takes attendance, and creates detailed minutes.  S/he is also called on to witness and document any special meetings throughout the year that may require minutes (somewhat seldom).  S/he oversees community service, school spirit, and beautification/green committee.

 

Corresponding Secretary: Tracy Barnett tgbarnett@verizon.net

The corresponding secretary is responsible for the PTA’s etiquette.  They purchase cards or gifts (depending on the occasion) for new staff, retiring staff, or for monumental events in the life of school staff.  They ensure cards are signed by all appropriate parties and delivered to the recipient. They liaise with the Media Specialist to arrange a book donation to the Media Centre in tribute to the staff member.  The Corresponding Secretary also oversees the three intra-curricular PTA sponsored activities being the Artist-in Residence Program, the Writer-in Residence Program and Author Day.  They provide guidance to the Chairperson to ensure the program is executed in a professional manner beneficial to the students.  S/he oversees the chair persons responsible for the  Family Resource Network and the Student Government.  The Corresponding Secretary attends the monthly executive board meetings and general membership meetings.

 

Activities Chair:  Laura Fingerhood  activities@waysidepta.org

The activities chair is responsible for all extra-curricular activities that are managed through the PTA.  They provide guidance to the chairperson, collect the payments, and ensure that the proper space is reserved through the county. They attend monthly executive board meetings and general membership meetings. Currently these committees include:  FLES, Math Olympiad, Mad Science, and Reflections.

 

Programs Chair:  Patricia Groisser  programs@waysidepta.org

The program chair oversees all non-fundraising events, currently Back to School Picnic, Variety Show, Bingo Night, Spring Fling and Movie Nights.  The Program Chair works with the chairperson of the event to ensure the proper space is reserved, to set up needed funds, and to help in any way to ensure the success of the event.  This chair is also the PTA board’s representative to the ICB, which coordinates all rentals of space for activities.  This chair must attend a one time 3 hour training on ICB rentals and policies.  S/he attends monthly executive board meetings and general membership meetings.

 

Membership Chair: Becky Cohn  membership@waysidepta.org

The membership chair is responsible for selling and tracking PTA memberships.  During the summer, they create and distribute a letter enlisting members to the PTA.  They also recruit members at back to school nights and through follow up flyers/waves messages.  It is his/her responsibility to create and maintain a current list of members for each meeting.  S/he also oversees the Welcoming Committee and the production of the school directory.  S/he attends monthly executive board meetings and general membership meetings.

 

Community Outreach Chair: Maureen Mackey maureen_mackey@yahoo.ca  

The community outreach chair is responsible for all committees and activities associated with outreach to the Wayside community.  This chair is responsible for providing guidance to the committees under this position, ensure that any space that is needed is reserved through the county, and to help ensure the success of all events and meetings associated with these committees.  This chair will be the PTA executive board representative in charge of reaching out and helping to involve the diverse community at Wayside in PTA activities. The community outreach chair will attend monthly executive board meetings and general membership meetings.  Committees under the outreach chair include cultural arts, special needs, Multicultural Festival, and International Walk to School Day.

 

MCCPTA Delegates:  Marie Minarich M_Minarich@hotmail.com and Gayle Friedman gffriedman@comcast.net

The two delegates are the local PTA’s connection with the county PTA.  They attend one MCCPTA (Montgomery County Council of PTAs) meeting per month.  They, along with the president, hold the three county-level votes belonging to the school.  They attend monthly executive board meetings and general membership meetings to share what occurs at the MCCPTA meetings.
